The emergence of new, immature markets in Europe and Asia presents fresh challenges for US multinationals. The wish to exploit the opportunities in these markets needs to be balanced against the risk presented. This is because some of these jurisdictions have a different definition of, and tolerance towards corruption,  and some also operate to lower overall compliance standards. 
This creates particular issues in the context of both M+A and regular day-to-day business. To address these issues, special care needs to be taken to ensure:

1.    that you do not acquire businesses which carry ‘latent’ FCPA or other compliance exposure simply            because they operate in a different regulatory environment, and

2.    that you implement practical education programs that reflect your duties,  standards and policies.
